Learn To Agree With God

"The Holy Spirit, our Great Teacher, brought to my attention that I had developed a negative pattern of speech. I constantly used phrases like 'I can't' and 'I'm afraid,' when God's Word told me 'I can' and 'Fear not.' My words were out of harmony with God's Word; I was disagreeing with the LORD." - Don Gossett. (Taken from: What You Say Is What You Get, Whitaker House, 1976, 13)

God asked through the prophet Amos, "Can two walk together? Except they be agreed" (Amos 3:3). Relationships of all kinds break down if the parties involved cannot come into agreement with each other. To effectively walk with God, we need to be in total agreement with Him.

We must believe God for who He is, what He says we are and what he says we have. God is all powerful and all-knowing (James 1:5), there is nothing too hard for Him (Jer. 32:27) and He had assured us that "all things are possible to him that believe" (Mark 9:23).

Dr. Don Gossett is telling us in the above quote how he discovered that he was disagreeing with God. Like Dr. Gossett, many of us disagree with God's Word in various aspects of our lives. Here's the trick; by disagreeing with God's Word we limit Him in our lives. We kind of become dictators to God. We tell Him what things we feel He can do and what things He cannot.

In his book What You Say Is What You Get, Dr. Don Gossett talked more about the benefits of agreeing with God and taking Him by His Word. God said you're saved; believe it and you're SAVED! God said ALL things are possible; believe it and ALL things will be possible for you. The LORD is good and His ways are beautiful and true. Believe Him on what He is saying concerning your life and situation and you will be the most happiest person in your 'world'.

3 Simple Ways To Know God For Yourself

It is marvelous and simply beautiful when Christians refer to the LORD as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob, the God of David, etc. It is beautiful because those elders were the foundation of our faith. Their faith in God was what earned them such good reputations for which they are still remembered to this day. The Bible said, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness” – Romans 4:3. The elders also obtained a good report [reputation] by their faith in God (Hebrews 11:2). So in essence, it is justified and wonderful when we use them in making reference to God.

However, this brings up a good question: must we as Christians know the LORD only as the God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, and so on? Shouldn’t we know the LORD our God for ourselves too? Well, the last time I checked we are sons and daughters too, and have the same right to the Father just like the elders of old. The Bible says, “…as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons [and daughters] of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). In this post I want to share with you three simple but amazing ways through which you can Know God for Yourself.

1. Speak to God Yourself and Do it Like a Son to a Father
I believe in praying for people but I also believe that the most effective of all prayers is the ones we pray we do ourselves. For example you can’t send one of your siblings to your dad any time you need something from him. Obviously, the seriousness your dad will accord to your request will be higher than when you are asking through a brother or sister. Similarly, talking to God yourself activates your faith in Him and thus leads to greater blessings. What is more intriguing is seeing the hand of God move to accomplish that which you asked Him. The euphoria is simply amazing.

Secondly, you need to talk to God like a son to his father. King David was one great man who did this many times (see Psalm 121). I never realized how close the LORD is to me until I started talking to Him like a son would do to his father. I believe in long prayers but I also strongly believe in short communications with God as I go about my daily activities. Many times I have stood at the bus stop with so much traffic, and with no sign of a bus to board. Then as soon as I open my mouth and speak, “God, I am late for work. Please help me get a bus now! Show your mercy; show your favor, in Jesus name. Amen,”suddenly, a bus will show up right away and I will board and go to work. This had happened so many times. Initially I used to say it is a coincidence. Perhaps the bus was already on it ways. But God taught me a lesson. He made sure I was eventually late on days which I doubted Him and did not pray at the bus stop.

  1. Allow God to Speak to You
Many Christians get so involved in praying that they fail to watch for the voice of the LORD. They apparently don’t see or even realize it when their prayer is answered. Jesus instructed us to Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation” –Mathew 26:41. Please, note how the word ‘watch’ came first before the word ‘pray,’ in the above scripture. It is good to pray, but is equally good to watch for the voice of God as we pray. In order to know God for ourselves, it is important that we allow the LORD to speak to us. God said in Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. God’s answer to our prayers is very crucial to our lives. From the His answer comes our deliverance, blessings, breakthrough and every good thing we ever imagine. And more importantly, it is from His answer that we can know His will for our lives and that ‘will’ is what enables us to have a personal relationship with Him.

  1. Learn to Agree With God
Agreeing with God is very important if we are to know God for ourselves. “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” – Amos 3:3. We need to agree with God on who He says we are, what He says we can do, and on His promises (John 14:2). God said your sins are forgiven and you are now a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17), He says, “You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13), and finally He said He is preparing a home for us in Heaven where we will live with Him forever and ever!
God has spoken; agree with Him by believing His Word, claiming it and taking it in Jesus’ name. Amen! If the LORD wills, I will be throwing more light on the third point of this post; Learning to Agree with God.

How You See Yourself Is How Others See You

How you see yourself is very important. People tend to perceive and see you just the way you also see and perceive yourself. The way you see yourself goes a long way to ensure your psychological well-being. Your self esteem influences several other areas of your life which when put together determines your overall success in life.

The Israelites Saw Themselves as Grasshoppers
“And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” – Numbers 13:33.
The prophet Moses sent twelve men of Israel to go and spy the land of Canaan which God had promised to give to them as inheritance. The twelve men after spying the land of Canaan for 40 days returned to Moses to give him a report of what the land is like.

However, only Caleb, one of the twelve, came with a good report of the land. “And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it” (Numbers 13:30). All the others brought a negative picture. “And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight” (Numbers 13:32)

The men saw themselves as grasshoppers before the inhabitants of the land of Canaan, and the amazing thing here is that, the people in return also saw the Israelites as grasshoppers. It is interesting to note here that the inhabitants of Canaan did not first see the Israelites as grasshoppers, worthless and or unfit. It was the Israelites who first saw themselves as grasshoppers, worthless and unfit to match into war with the people of Canaan. We as humans serve as mirrors to others. How we see ourselves is a reflection unto others. How you see yourself is exactly how others see you. It is just as simple as that. If you see yourself through an eye of love, self-worth and of great importance, that is exactly how others are going to see you.

I Was Timid
I am personally a witness to the above fact. I went through the entire years of High School as a timid boy. Initially, I thought it was calmness but later I realize it is sheer timidity. Despite being the very good student that I was, I was very timid. I never ask questions in class. I felt so inferior to my classmates. I never saw anything good in me. The sad part of it all is that I never noticed I was a very handsome boy. I felt really bad anytime I thought of what others think or say about me. This behavior really affected my studies and my relationship with people. I became an extremely reserved person.

My Turning Point
About a year after graduating from High School, I was dressing to go out and when I got done dressing I decided to check myself out in the mirror. That was my turning point. Right in front of me in the mirror I saw a very handsome boy. Suddenly I was like “hey! You’re handsome”. I had never felt that way about myself so I couldn’t fully swallow in those words that I uttered. So I took my eyes off the mirror, thought for a while and returned to the mirror to confirm what I had seen early on. Again, there in the mirror stood the handsome me I had see earlier.
That day when I went out, I had more people telling me “hey, you look good”, “you’re handsome”, “and you’re cute” and many more good compliments. Sounds like magic, huh? I was really amazed and this changed my entire outlook on life. It is a REAL FACT; how you see yourself is how others see you. If you see yourself as some mediocre, aimless and worthless that is exactly how others are going to see you. But if you see yourself as a very special, gifted and wonderful person, you will be surprise to know that that is exactly how others see you.

You're Special
So from today, begin to see yourself as a very important person, a very unique person, a person who is loved and cherished so dearly by friends and family. Take out those negative thoughts, perceptions and ideologies about yourself and replace them with positives ones. You’re very special, a wonderful person created in the image and likeness of God. Be proud of yourself, feel good about yourself and love yourself. Cheers!

Anti-Abortion Campaign: Stop Abortion Now!

Just wondering, how many people will consider abortion if the act actually kills the mother and leaves the unborn child safe and sound? Of course some cases of abortion results in death. But will people attempt abortion if for a fact, all abortions lead to the dying of the mother and the saving of the life of the child?

The issue of abortion is a very pathetic one. There is a lot of injustice going on in the world today. The injustice is wilder when one consider the issue of abortion. I recently read that Gerald Ortega of Contra Costa, CA, was sentenced to 5yrs imprisonment in May 2010 for killing a dog (Retrieved from: voicesforpets). Now here is the injustice: If somebody can be sentenced to at least 5yrs imprisonment for killing 'just' a dog, and under the same jurisdiction, people and doctors perform abortion (destroying a human life) and go scot free without any persecution, or charges of any kind? Then I am sorry to say that something is not going right. We as a people, a nation and a world, is making a wrong prioritization which God is not happy about.

Stop abortion now!
I am not by any means justifying animal cruelty, No! The point, however, which I intend making, is that, both animal killings and abortions are murders which require at least equal attention.

The same laws that abhor animal cruelty and send offenders to jail should also be able to recognize abortion as a murder because that is what it is. All the arguments by doctors who approve abortion appear very invalid upon a second thought. Imagine if abortion had been legalized in most countries about 100 years ago. A whole chunk of the world’s population we see today would not have been born. As a matter of fact, a good number of those doctors who justify and performs abortion would have had no place in this world.

It is very pathetic how people, who thinly escaped the doctor’s life and tools, have grown up to be pro-abortion campaigners and advocates. Lord have mercy. In writing this article, I took the pains to research on one prominent pro-abortionist who is a president for a North-American country. To my utmost amazement, I found this president was born when his mother was just eighteen years old. Imagine the trauma and humiliation that an eighteen years old pregnant girl was likely to face way back in the 1960s. There is a good chance that the young girl would have aborted her unborn child if abortion was legalized at the time. Today this man who escaped abortion back in the 1960s because of its illegality has supported and succeeded in legalizing abortion in some America states.

Young women, mostly teens, and women in their twenties, are the most people that perform abortion nowadays. Lives are being destroyed, dreams shuttered and destinies are prevented from unfolding. Children are said to be the future leaders. If this is true, and I believe it is, then why are unborn children made to suffer the doctor’s knife at a stage and hour of their lives where they cannot fight for themselves. This is cruelty; abortion is murder, gruesome murder, if you ask me.

I recently learned about a young couple who wanted to abort their unborn child. The doctor had said the child will post great danger to the mother at birth, and proposed that the only way out was for the child to be aborted. These young couple heeded to the doctor’s advice and had taken the decision to kill their unborn child. But the LORD intervened. They met a Christian doctor at the hospital who gave them a godly advice. They resolved to keep the pregnancy in spite of the danger predicted by the first doctor. Few months later, the mother gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. The child became their greatest joy and they became very fond of her.

The young couple loved their daughter when she was finally born, the same child they wanted to abort. Truth is, there's no difference between the unborn child and the baby. It is the same living organism at different stages of development.

It is not common to see people in their right minds killing their own children. Why? It is because such act is considered murder and punishable by law. However, people commit abortion and do not even realize they are committing murder. After all, many jurisdictions do not recognize abortion as murder. How sad. Innocent children are being killed every day, every hour and every minute through abortion and we sit and watch, and say nothing. We need no religion to tell us abortion is murder. Abortion is a gruesome murder and we as a people ought to stand up against it.

Each human being in this world is unique. No two people are the same. That is why we all have different thumbprints to reveal to us how unique we are. It's sickening how millions of unique children are denied the chance of coming into this world to live their unique lives simply because they had to face abortion.

It is time for change. You and I can bring a great change. Let's tell the world to stop abortion. Decide today to stand up against abortion. Talk to friends and family about the need to stand up against abortion. Life is a free gift and no one should be denied living it. LET’S STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT, LET’S STAND UP AGAINST ABORTION! Be You, Be Yourself, and Keep It Real

It is very common to see people using photos of others, especially celebrities for their profiles on social networking sites. Whiles this act is usually perceived to be cool, it also brings up a good question; why are you promoting and uplifting others instead of yourself? It is perfectly alright to like someone and want to be like them. However, the situation gets out of hand when you get so obsessed with them such that you don’t care and appreciate who you are anymore.

Poor self-image
Ladies and gentlemen, permit me to say this: I consider you have a very poor self-image if you always use celebrity photos as your profile picture on social networking sites. You may like a celebrity but you can never be like them, you'll always be you and that is the fact. Another fact is that, most celebrities wish they could have a normal life like you. You’re a very unique and special person. The very reason you are not realizing this truth is because you’re not paying enough attention to your own self. It’s high time you stop promoting others and promote yourself. If somebody will love you it will have to start from you loving yourself. You have to feel good about yourself. You are the only one who can effectively be you – so be you!
It affects relationships
In fact, we are to "love others as ourselves". Love and hate are equal and opposite. If you don't love yourself then you hate yourself. And if you hate yourself then how can you love somebody as yourself? So you see this habit will even affect how you do relationships. You'll always be expecting your boyfriend to act like Will Smith, sing like Kirk Franklin, write like Max Lucado or even be funny as Eddie Murphy.
This doesn't help any relationship as the poor boy can't be all that you want him to be. He can only be who he is. This is a fact and the earlier you accept it the better. You'll never see anything good in a person if you always expect them to be like another person. You'll always get disappointed when they are around and by so doing you will miss every good quality that they have to offer. Before you know they will be gone for good.

Decide today...
From today, decide to be YOU. Make 'YOU' real. You are YOU and that is what you are. Accept it and start promoting yourself and not celebrities out there. You are the only one who can perfectly be YOU. And remember, YOU is a unique and very special person, so be YOU!

Amazing Proof of God's Existence

"Because God won't answer their prayers, many people believe that there is no God. That's like saying Don Gossett does not exist because he did not answer his telephone." –Don Gossett (Taken from: What You Say Is What You Get, 1976, 20).

The issue of God's existence is a much debated one. The debate actually rests on Creationism, that's the biblical explanation for all things that exist in the world today verses Evolution, a theory which was developed by Charles Darwin, in the which he argued that human beings, animals and objects came into existence through scientific processes over a long period of time.

I find Creationism far credible than evolution. After all, Creationism is a STORY and Evolution is a THEORY. Theories are tentative explanations of relationship and they’re always subject to revision. A story is far more reliable than a theory. For instance, imagine two people came to your house. The first person gives you a vivid story of your ancestry with illustrations. The second person however, gives you speculations (combination of what he has seen and heard, and his guesses and assumptions). Which of these two will you believe?

Obviously you know by now that, theories are based on hypothesis (assumptions). That is why we have scientists disagreeing with each other on virtually every subject of research. Sigmund Freud (1856-1939), founder of the Psychoanalytic theory and Psychoanalysis, a profound school of thought in Psychology, disagreed with his own students on some of his scientific findings. In the end, he had to sack those students who disagreed with him so as to defend his findings.

The Creation story provides much evidence to prove the existence of God. The Bible helps to explain the architecture of the universe. Creationism explains step-by-step how everything we see in the world today, came into existence. The Creation story is contained in Genesis, which is the first book of the Bible. All persons wanting to do a critical analysis of Creationism and Evolution should read the full creation story so as to be able to make a more objective assessment.
