What Does The Bible Say About Love?

What is love? In Mathematics; a problem, in History; a reaction, in Art; a Heart, and in Psychology, it is a feeling. So what really is love?

The Archbishop Duncan Williams once said, "If you don't understand something you can easily abuse it." This statement is very true. There is a big deal of misunderstanding about what love really is. In this post, I want us to take a look at what the Bible says about love. Remember to leave your comments below the post.

“Love is beautiful, it is patient, it is kind, it’s not selfish and it’s not puffed up [arrogant] (1 Corinthians 13). In John 15:13 Jesus said "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." From the above scripture, we see love manifesting itself as sacrificial. Love has a great deal to do with sacrifice. To love someone means to like and cherish them both for their strengths and for their weaknesses and imperfections. A lot of people do not understand and accept love as an act of sacrifice. Many people see love to be fun. Of course! Love is fun. Besides the fun, however, comes sacrifice.

The Apostle Paul said something that I think is worth our attention; he said, "Let love be without dissimulation, abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good" --Romans 12:9 (KJV). A perfect word for the word dissimulation is hypocrisy. Dissimulation also means feigning or disguising. If you want to love then you should be prepared to make it real. People cheat out of pretense. Love can never be real if the lovers are not real to themselves. There is so much cheating nowadays because people fake love.

‘To Love’ and ‘to pretend to love’ are two diverging phrases. To love is to take proactive steps to show care and affection towards another person. To pretend to love is superficial showing of care, usually for selfish reasons. The person pretending to love usually asks, “What’s in this relationship for me? Am I going to lose or gain?”

Love, when it is true, stands the time of time. It does not seek its own, but that of the other person (1 Corinthians 13:5).

God is a perfect example of a good lover. He loved us even when we were still sinners and completely ignorant of His will. The Lord revealed His unfailing love for us by sending His son Jesus Christ to die to save us from our sins (see Romans 5:7, 8).
Beloved, God wants the best for you because he loves you, and it is my prayer that you will not accept anything less to what God has in store for you. Everybody deserves better. Everyone deserves to be loved for who they are. I pray God blesses you with true love on your love journey. Blessings!
